So, today 8/28/2014 I went on another interview... Interview 27..You know what they say, third time is a charm.. I don't know what they say about the fourth time.. but I went on my fourth interview with Macy's.
I decided to go and apply for Macy's... even though I had been on an interview with them three times in the past 2 years ago... last time was 10/00/2012.
I really want to get an office job, but I have to get my driver's license first.. I thought I would apply for Macy's for reasons.. even though it was a retail position I clearly applied for.
I filled out their survey, which I thought I had failed because the other times I applied, I got an email about an interview the next day.. but this one I got the email two days later.
I was really nervous as I hadn't been on an interview for a year... I just kept writing down possible questions they would ask me.
I was sitting in the waiting room for a while.. maybe 5-10 minutes.
The interviewer was actually the manager that interviewed me the last time I went on an interview, I don't know if she recognized me or not though.
The weird thing is she did not ask me any questions that I had saved.. not even the one that I was asked previously at another time with a different interviewer (Describe a time you used teamwork)..
The questions she asked were pretty simple, such as if I work well with a team and alone.. which department I would be interested.. what do I do at my current job.. simple things. There were even things that she filled out for me without even asking me..
It was so weird, when I didn't have retail experience, it was really trivial.. but after working in another retail industry (That I cannot name).. half of the stuff I didn't even need to mention... I almost felt like I was overqualified.
What I wanted to do was work at my current job and Macy's, both part time; but they said I could only choose one or the other.
My current job I am full time and get paid 8.25.. Macy's wanted to hire me.. I said part time before I knew I could not work both jobs... and they would pay me 8.00 an hour.
I started to realize that me applying for Macy's was just kind of silly... I already work in retail.. and the store I work at is a bit more laid back than Macy's from what the manager was describing it. I started having flash backs about how my current job is.. and even though it's stressful, I feel like I am supposed to be there.. like Macy's may just not be the place for me.
My original plan was to get my license and an office job..but getting a job at Macy's would just be a detour.
I told the interviewer I would get back to her if I still want the job... But I don't think I will take it.
I was having problems at my current job.. so that's why I thought of going to Macy's.. but to be honest.. It's better to rough it out than run away.. and then go with the original plan of an office job!
So, my first three interviews with Macy's, they didn't want meh.. but now they want meh.. but I don't really want them... weird how things work.
On the plus side, since I do want to get a new job soon, of the clerical kind.. this interview gets me a little toasty for interviews.. and ready for the big boys.
Lesson Learned: You may realize that, the job isn't the right job for you.

Let's work in maintenence
My third job lasted a week, and only because I asked to come back to my previous job in a mail room. It was a volunteer job in maintenance and the only reason why I took it was because it was closer to my house and a much easier bus ride; my main goal was to pick up garbage, scrub toilets and vacuum. There was one girl that worked with me, and she always vacuumed, so I had to do the dirty work...(Literally). The place was a school....for bad kids, the kids ages 8-17 would live in the dorms and they had school everyday, our duty was to clean the dorms while they were at school. It originally was a nunnery, which explains the old look it had and the creepiness to it. It was the beginning of August, so it was hot out and it didn't help because of the long walk from the bus, what was worse is that the campus was huge...so by the time I would clock in, I would be sweating terribly. My first day, all I did was pick up garbage around the campus, because they had nothing to do for me that day. I actually spoke to the woman at the desk and she asked me how I was liking the job and I made sure to say something neutral, so I said "It's something I haven't experienced before" or some jazz like that... in which she replied something like "Well, not all jobs you'll like". The way she said it and how it came out just sounded rude and I was as polite as I could be, I think she could have taken it a nicer way.
The second day, I had to clean the dorms... I would just spray a little bit of cleaner on toilets while my associate at the time would vacuum, she would tell me what to do.. but I feel like me being there was just an excuse so she didn't have to clean the toilets....
The dorms were very creepy and empty, some of the kids would have posters up or items of significance to them. One kid had a Chucky doll in their room, which was not a pleasant thing to see when you turn the lights on....
What I really liked was my break time, I would take an hour break instead of a half an hour break... because the campus was so big and staff were in other places far away, I would just sneak off to a table outside and read a japanese comic for a half hour and eat the other hour... of course if someone saw me I would pretend that I was working... it was just such a bad job, that I really needed an hour break, even though I was only supposed to have a one hour break.
Either the second day or my third day, there was nothing for me to do at some point, so the woman in the office let me help her move her office supplies around; which was actually the most exciting part about the job, I am an office person so I really liked it....even though it was only for like 20 minutes and then they found some maintenance job for me to do... I was like "Why can't I do this instead?!" XD
I also had to help pick up debris from one of the dorms... As well as help one of my associates at the time with the flowers she had planted the previous year.
The third and last day, was interesting as although I hated the job so far... I actually got to the point where I was getting used to the job... I still hated it... but I got more used to it so it didn't bother me as much... I had made a call to see if I could go back to my previous job at the mail room and I was able to.
I got one of my friends to tell the people at the school that I got employment somewhere else.
I stayed with the mail room for another month until they let me go.
The maintenance position was one of the worst jobs I've had so far and I hope I never have to do anything similar again.
I give this job a 3/10.

Let's work as a Mailroom Clerk
My second job was years later and a voluntary job as well, the commute was terrible as the bus ride was 2 and a half hours long!
The job however was fun, it wasn't something hard or strenuous.
This mail room worked with sending mortgages to people, some were small, some were huge. We would sort them out, as some of the mortgages all went to one address in other states. The mortgages would all be tied by rubber bands and we would have to flip through them to see where the pages for a different recipient would end and start, afterwards we would staple all of the pages per person together. The next step was folding the pages together to fit either the small envelopes, big envelopes or manilla envelopes... it wasn't difficult, but it was definitely something that took a bit of practice to understand and get it correctly; everyone had their own style. We also had to put these little bookmark like flyers in the envelopes, this way the people would know where it came from.
When documents were all going to the same place, we would start a big mailing box to send off to the companies that the address was going to.
It was very repetitive, but I liked it and I got used to it. I met lot's of great people, as people would get terminated or leave quickly... I met about 15 people in a 4 month radius. When I started, I was one of 6 people. When I was let go, there was only one of the remaining 6 of us that were still there. Two people were fired, one had to go because he had to take care of his children and the other one... well he just vanished. After someone would leave, we would have someone new in. It was a very interesting experience to meet so many people, I only regret meeting one of them later on who was a big creeper! Apparently he was terminated when I was, I kind of felt like I sacrificed myself to get rid of that creep!
The cafe was really big because it was a giant government building with so many different departments, It was also the place where I would go to stare at this guy I liked, I never talked to him though.... I just made sure to go to the cafe at the right hour and stare at him while eating... I'm not a stalker... really! XD
The only weird thing about the building is that it made me have to go to the bathroom, I went to the bathroom everytime I was there, I wasn't the only one either. Once I left, I never had to go to the bathroom while I was at work (Occasionally of course, but never frequent like this was)
It was a fun job that I will never forget.
I give this kind of job a 7/10

Let's work as a dog walker!
When I was 13, the neighbors let me walk their dog while they were at work. They would pay me 5 dollars a week and eventually 10 dollars a week, I only did it for about two years because they moved away in 2005 and then just kind of disconnected from me and my parents.
Their dog was named Roo, a cute black and white dog that loved everyone. I'm afraid that Roo is probably dead now, as she is as old as my sister and my sister is in her mid teens.
It was really a fun job, as long as you like dogs and or other pets if it's another animal someone asks you to watch them.
I didn't literally walk Roo; I had a key to the house, and I would let Roo roam around in their backyard. I would play with her for about and hour and then I would bring her inside again and leave.
This is just one form of Dog walking, and I know there are others. I would love to get to watch a dog again, it would be fun since I love dogs.
Although, obviously the pay would not be 5-10 a week for professional dog walking for an adult.
Technically, this was my first job.
I give this job a 10/10
